General Assessment And Promotion Policy
Assessments are a part of the teaching-learning process. It involves the systematic gathering of information from different sources regarding children’s learning. While content and pedagogy help to organize learning experiences for children, assessments that help provide information to the Teacher, parents, and children themselves about their achievements. Teachers can use information from regular ongoing assessments for planning and organizing learning experiences for children. All children are unique and have different ways and a different pace of learning. Assessment should be designed to accommodate such diversity. Assessment findings can also help Teachers identify children who need additional support and attention.
The school has adopted the measures recommended in Secondary curriculum 2025-26 in line with the NCF-SE 2023, to reassess and transform the approach to assessments. The School Assessment Policy aims to evaluate students holistically, focusing on their cognitive, social, and emotional development. The School Assessment framework follows the recommendations of CBSE, NCERT, Nipun Bharat Guidelines, NEP 2020, National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage 2022 and National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, emphasizing formative and summative assessments, competency-based learning, and reducing rote memorization.
- The academic year begins in April and consists of two terms; first term is from April to September
and the second term is from October to March.
- There will be term-wise assessment for all the levels / stages of education.
- Portion of Exam shall be given one month in advance.
- Targeted timeline for Syllabus completion for any Formative Assessment / Periodic Test is one week -10 days before the Test starts.
- Targeted timeline for Syllabus completion for any Term Exams: Two weeks before the exam starts.
- Class tests, revision sessions and tests, remedial sessions shall be planned prior to the exam.
- A student may not be allowed to sit in the Annual Assessment if he/she has not put in a minimum of 75% of the attendance for the academic session. (as per CBSE norms)
- A student will have to secure overall 33% marks to be promoted. In case, a student who is not able to secure 33% in final assessments will be given one chance for performance improvement in the Retest.
- A report on the performance of the student will be communicated to parents after assessments.
- For students of class 9 & 10, the Board Norms for promotion shall be applicable.
- A student who is absent during any PT / UT / Term assessment shall be marked as absent.
- Parents should not approach the school for rescheduling the assessments.
- Only for Final Assessment, in case, If any student is absent, due to any emergency / medical issue, or any competitive examination or Sports Championship, will have to write the exam when Retest will be scheduled. A medical certificate / an application along with a parent note has to be submitted in such cases.
- The Assessment Criteria adopted across different stages of schooling is age appropriate based on learning outcomes and competencies.
Foundational Stage | Balvatika (Pre Primary) To Std. 2
- The academic year begins in April and consists of two terms; first term is from April to September and the second term is from October to March.
- As per the recommendations of NCF-FS and HPC, Assessment at the Foundational Stage are not to provide any grade and score on a child’s performance but to understand a child’s progress in various learning outcomes and competencies.
- Explicit tests and examinations are inappropriate assessment tools for this stage. There shall be no formal examination for FOUNDATIONAL STAGE.
- There will be term-wise assessment for Mini KG, Jr. KG, Sr. KG.
- Assessments are to be conducted largely in the form of qualitative observations by teachers. Assessments will be done based on oral, practical and basic written exercise through worksheets along with continuous & comprehensive evaluation.
- Assessment methods and tools are aligned with children’s natural learning experiences, avoiding undue pressure, accommodating the diversity in children’s learning styles and expressions, allowing teachers the flexibility to design various assessment methods effectively.
- The child’s progress is systematically recorded and documented and evidence is maintained.
- Assessments will test the competencies that students are expected to achieve, covering all dimensions of learning, particularly with the introduction of new concepts. Assessments will help to track a child’s progress in all the major learning domains.
- A student is required to have a minimum of 75% of attendance for the academic session.
- The students of Std 1 & 2 shall be assessed for the following subjects: Language and Literature -English, Hindi & Marathi, Numeracy (Mathematics) Environmental Studies, Work Education, Health and Physical Education and Art Education.
- Students will also be assessed on Discipline, which will be based on attendance, sincerity, values, behavior, tidiness, respectfulness for rules and regulations, attitude towards society, nation and others.
- School has implemented the Holistic Progress Card (HPC) as a formal communication tool between school and family, providing comprehensive reporting of students’ progress based on competencies and learning outcomes achieved. Assessment of children on all the essential aspects of their growth and development will be compiled in the form of a Holistic Progress Card (HPC), which is descriptive and analytic rather than merely numerical.
Distribution of Marks and Weightage For Grade 1 & 2

Preparatory Stage - Classes 3 – 5
The academic year begins in April and consists of two terms; first term is from April to September and the second term is from October to March.
Formative Oral and Written Assessments shall be conducted alongside Multiple Modes of Assessments, Observations, Artifacts Analysis in the student’s Portfolio to track individual student progress in conceptual understanding, creativity, and competencies they are expected to achieve.
Comprehensive Summative Assessments / Term End Exams shall be conducted at the end of each term to ensure readiness for the next grade.
One cycle of Periodic Test and Term End Examination will be conducted in each term.
The students shall be assessed for the following subjects: Language and Literature -English, Hindi & Marathi, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Work Education, Health and Physical Education and Art Education.
Students will also be assessed on Discipline, which will be based on attendance, sincerity, values, behavior, tidiness, respectfulness for rules and regulations, attitude towards society, nation and others.

- The academic year begins in April and consists of two terms; first term is from April to September and the second term is from October to March.
- The students will be assessed continuously and comprehensively throughout the year on the basis of PERIODIC TESTS and TERM END EXAMINATIONS.
- As per CBSE guidelines, one cycle of Periodic Test and Term End Examination will be conducted in each term.
- Formative Oral and Written Assessments shall be conducted alongside Multiple Modes of Assessments, Observations, Artifacts Analysis in the student’s Portfolio to track individual student progress in conceptual understanding, creativity, and competencies they are expected to achieve.
- Assessments will test the competencies that students are expected to achieve, covering all dimensions of learning, particularly with the introduction of complex concepts.
- More emphasis would be on conceptual understanding and higher-order capacities, utilizing various assessment techniques like projects, debates, and presentations.
- Regular observations and assessments shall be conducted to test conceptual understanding and higher-order capacities, encouraging creativity through appropriate multiple modes of assessments.
- Annual comprehensive summative assessments / Term End Exams shall be conducted, offering support options to ensure readiness for the next grade.

Secondary Stage: Classes 9 To 10
- The academic year begins in April and consists of two terms; first term is from April to September and the second term is from October to March.
- Evaluation Approach will be in line with the CBSE’s Secondary Curriculum with emphasis on competency-based education.
- The students will be assessed continuously and comprehensively throughout the year on the basis of 3 PERIODIC TESTS PT-1, PT-II ( HALF YEARLY EXAMINATIONS) and PT-III, ANNUAL EXAMINATION / BOARD EXAM as per CBSE GUIDELINES as applicable for class 9 & 10.
- The Assessment pattern for class-9 & 10 for the academic year 2025-26 will be as per the Secondary Curriculum and Assessment pattern 2025-26.
- Average of the best 2 Periodic Tests will be taken (reduced to 05 marks) for the Final Marks submission.
- Syllabus for the Periodic Test will increase cumulatively.
- Class 9 Annual Exams / Class 10 Board Exams will cover 100% syllabus / moderated syllabus of each subject.
- Students have to secure a total of 33% marks in Internal Assessment and Board Examinations, added together to be considered passed.
- Different activities will be conducted in the entire year for Subject Enrichment Activity

Promotion Policy
- Mandatory attendance of 75% is needed in an academic year.
- No detention till Class 8 (As Per No Detention Policy).
- Minimum Passing Marks for all classes in all subjects – 33% in each.
- For class 1 to 9, if a student scores less than 33% in final exams, he / she shall be given a retest opportunity for performance improvement.
Terminology used for promotion status up to class 8
- PASS: For Grade A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D
- Promoted but needs improvement: For Grade E (in case of retest)
- For Class 9, as per CBSE guidelines, if a student fails a Retest in any single subject, they will be detained in Class 9 and not promoted to Class 10.
